M&M Surfing School opened their truck doors in 1995. The owners, Michael Sr. and Michael Jr. wanted to share their love of surfing with others. Born and raised in Southern California, it just made sense for them to start a school to help others not only experience the euphoria of surfing but to deepen their appreciation for the ocean.
This family business has become known worldwide. Their students don’t just come one time and leave, they continue to come and become part of this surfing family. People of all ages, from age 5 and up, can learn the fundamentals of surfing and water safety. They take the safety aspect of surfing very seriously and strive to help everyone do the same. They also specialize in helping those who are intermediate and advanced to progress further. Their staff is very friendly and strive to make everyone’s surfing experience a memorable one!

Michael Pless is the founder and owner of M&M Surfing School. He started surfing in 1962 and always wanted to open a surfing school. For 41 years he worked as a respiratory therapist and is certified in advanced life support. He was in the trauma and transport team. In 1995 he opened M&M Surfing School with the sole purpose of wanting to help people learn to surf with an appreciation for the ocean. He has the reputation of helping people, of all ages, catch their first wave and to continue their love of surfing. Michael has become the “Saint of Seal Beach” and has been Seal Beach’s Surfing Santa since the early 90s. With the help of his son Michael Jr. and Jonathan, M&M Surfing School has become a worldwide family of surfers.
Michael Pless Jr. is an owner of M&M Surfing School. He has been surfing since he was 5 years old. Growing up in Huntington Beach made it easy for him to surf every day and develop his skills. When he was 22 years old, he joined the Navy and specialized in the medical unit as a Corpsman. He is certified in CPR and has 30 years of experience teaching surfing. His love for people and desire to teach, just comes naturally. He is a father of two boys who share the passion for surfing with their dad. Michael’s carefree spirit is contagious. He motivates his students with his positive vibes, allowing his students to have the confidence needed to catch waves.
